ISO 21500 CPC Project Management Standards Guide 2017 V2.1
Preface
After the successful rather short history in training and testing PMP, our team has developed this ‘Project Management Standards Guide’, which is designed to provide you with a quick guide to one of the latest developments in the project management profession, i.e., ISO 21500[1]. This group of enthusiastic volunteers has consolidated to form the Project Champions Academy (PCA). There are several reasons for the importance of keeping updating the materials and tests in the project management profession. On the one hand, project management is one of the key skillsets demanded by organizations around the world. Statistics show that one-fifth of the world’s GDP, or more than $12 trillion, will be spent on projects each year in the decade 2010-2020. This fact calls for proper management to deal with this new huge investment.
On the other hand, in the coming years, many skilled project management practitioners will be leaving the workforce due to retirement, a trend which will have a major strategic impact for over 60% of organizations worldwide. Consequently, there is a great demand for preparing new knowledgeable project managers to take the lead. Furthermore, before the preparation of this guide and the accompanying certificate, there was no professional exam to test the competence of project managers in ISO 21500 knowledge.
All the above reasons led the PCA group to prepare The Project Management Standards Guide that encompasses the curriculum needed to pass the Certified Project Champion (21500 CPC) certifications. The 21500 CPC certification is recognized by the International Institute of Executive Careers (IIEC). The project manager who holds a 21500 CPC certificate, confirms to employers, clients and colleagues that he/she
possesses project management knowledge, experience and skills to bring projects to successful completion according to international standard (i.e., ISO 21500).
ISO 21500 is the first globally accepted standard on project management. It enables and supports you, your organization and all project stakeholders to speak ‘one language’ in project environments, even cross-borders, with multi-cultures and multiple organizations involved. The Project Management Standards Guide is not built from scratch, instead of reinventing the wheel, volunteers in the PCA benefited from well-known authorities in the field of project management around the world, such as PMI’s PMBOK Guide (2013) and ISO 21500:2012. It is worth mentioning that the latest (fifth) edition of PMI’s PMBOK[2] Guide (2013) is based on the structure and concepts of ISO 21500:2012, with more than 95% of the processes overlapping; and only slightly different names for some processes. Other globally applied standards, like IPMA’s Competency Baseline 4.0 (due in Autumn 2014), already plan to follow the same direction.
Accordingly, successfully passing the 21500 CPC exam presupposes that you have full knowledge of both PMBOK and 21500 concepts, processes, and subject groups. Therefore, you are encouraged to take the 21500 CPC exam, pass it successfully, and receive the certification to verify to yourself, managers, colleagues, and the whole professional community that you possess the latest qualities required to become a project champion, and that you update your knowledge and practice to meet the modern international standards.
