Abstract This article summarizes and integrates the findings of recent studies that evaluate adult academic and vocational correctional education programs for men. Contrary to the Martinson Report (1974), we conclude that the recent research shows a fair amount of support for the hypotheses that adult academic and vocational correctional education programs lead to fewer disciplinary violations during incarceration, to reductions in recidivism, to increases in employment opportunities, and to increases in participation in education upon release. We conclude by making recommendations for future research. learn more
